DIY - Chalkboard Painted Mason Jar
This is another super simple craft involving two of my favorite things: mason jars and chalkboard paint.
Martha Stewart has a brand of paints that includes black chalk paint. It's a tiny bottle, but I only needed it for a tiny project. Plus, it's full coverage, so I didn't have to spend time putting on a million coats of paint and waiting for them to dry inbetween. We all know how I have no patience waiting for these kinds of things.
Materials:
mason jar - your favorite size
small paint brush - you may want a few sizes
chalk paint
chalk
Directions:
1. Make sure your mason jar is clean and free from any sticky labels or food residue.
2. Using a paint brush, paint the outside of the mason jar. I like to work upside down, putting my hand inside the jar for stability and work on the bottom of the jar first. Use care when painting the ridges near the mouth of the jar, you want to cover them completely, but not let it get too think.
3. Let dry. Then repeat. (Make sure it's really good and dry before adding coat number two or you run the risk of accidently peeling off the first layer. Painting on glass will do that.
4. Let coat number 2 dry. Then turn over and repeat on the top rim if desired.
5. Wait 48 hours before using, just so you know the paint is really dry.
Use your new jar to plant herbs, as a pencil holder, or to hold some of your craft supplies.
